Founded in 1996 by Curtis Liberda, 2clighting offers full scope lighting design services to hospitality, retail, corporate, civic, and residential clients. Appointed in 2022 by Curtis Liberda, Summer Douglass is the current President and serves as Creative Director.
Our credo of ‘listening is paramount” has truly been key to successful projects and repeat clients. All projects are approached first and foremost from an aesthetics viewpoint. It is our mission to enhance what others have created without calling attention to the lighting itself, unless that is the specific goal. The technical disciplines are blended into this process in order to help achieve the design rather than restrict or govern.
Ongoing education is a high priority at 2clighting through seminars, in house training, art and architecture programs/classes. 2clighting is also actively involved in the latest energy code compliance panel reviews and discussions for implementation. Our ultimate goal is to create a responsible and innovative lighting design through great attention to detail, function, aesthetic, and budget. Designs are tailored to project specifics. 2clighting does not represent, sell, or install equipment. The result is the most cost effective and unbiased design for each project.
Summer received her Bachelors of Architecture with Honors from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2004. She joined Curtis Liberda and a diverse group of designers at 2clighting after graduation and brings a valuable combination of creative design and technical knowledge to all projects. Upon the passing of Curtis Liberda in 2022, Curtis appointed Summer to be principal and creative director.
Summer served the vision of 2clighting for 18 years in multiple roles from junior designer to senior designer and project manager on residential, hospitality, commercial, and civic projects before assuming the role of creative director. Her experience includes interior spaces and exterior spaces such as site, landscape, and hardscape. Over the years, she has become skilled at complex coordination between fixture manufacturers, control system technicians, and installation contractors.
Summer is very experienced in creating architectural.lighting mockups to ensure lighting performance for very challenging spaces that complement the architecture in new and inventive ways. This is also invaluable in helping Clients “see” the lighting effects well in advance of project completion.

2clighting also offers Additional scope of services including:
Our introduction to the project is usually through an initial meeting with the Owner and Design Team to review the project and all documentation to date in order to understand not only the architectural design, but also the program, budgets, concepts, etc. It is most beneficial to the project when we are involved as early as possible in the design process. This allows for greater options in achieving the goals of all.
Phases of our services follow the design process of the architect and/or interior design team very closely. This usually is defined as follows :
2clighting is extremely conscious of all code compliances including energy, night sky, military and all area specific codes. We are active in all code compliance processes and fully support and encourage smart and efficient designs without compromising aesthetics.
Quality assurance is a multifaceted and continuous process throughout all projects at 2clighting. In addition to scheduled meetings with Client and Design Team Members, in-house team meetings are held at minimum once weekly to review status of all phases of projects. Documentation and recording of all notes, drawings, sketches, and correspondence is set up in individual project files to track the progress of each project. This allows for review at any given time by any Team Member.
Extensive check lists have been generated for each phase of the design process and are also included in the project file. These lists are reviewed by the Design Director and all Team Members throughout the project to ensure complete and accurate documents.
To manage the lighting and lighting controls equipment cost, 2clighting regularly obtains and updates these costs as provided by the industry. For a given project with full scope of services. 2clighting will prepare a project equipment cost spreadsheet subsequent to development of the schematic design. General and specific lighting costs are then discussed during the schematic design presentation. This provides the opportunity for dialogue between the client and 2clighting. Cost concerns and budget limitations can then be carried forward to design development. Subsequent to design development, the cost spreadsheet is further refined so that costing can be a part of the design development review.
2clighting considers the equipment cost of a project as important as the aesthetic design and the performance of the lighting. The aesthetics and performance can only be realized when the costs have been carefully controlled and the proper products are installed on the job.
